Evelyn Moore (Sgt Mom) was a writer, mother of five, United States Marine ( ‘50 to ‘55), and friend to many. Her words fill readers with memories of her rich and colorful life, peppered with valuable (often comic) wisdom she acquired throughout the years, and an unwavering faith that remained strong her whole life. At age 83, Evelyn Moore was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. She wrote this book shortly after her diagnosis. She did not want her memories to be forgotten. Evelyn's hope was to help people find that the aging process is not to be feared. Her daughter (and caregiver), Mary Alice Moore, fulfills Evelyn's wish by publishing this book. A portion of the proceeds will go to The Semper Fi Fund. This is her daughter's way of giving back to the many military members who showed great support and love toward Sgt Mom during her last year of life. Alzheimer's could never take the Corps out of Sgt Mom. She leaned on her Marine training to fight her last battle. Evelyn Moore passed away July 26, 2014 at age 90. I was blessed to have had the experience of getting to know this amazing woman not in person but through her Daughter Mary. When I heard this book was going to be published I ordered it right away and I'm glad I did. Having recently lost my Mom as well, this book helped me to cope with the memories and to know where she go that Fighting spirit to forge forward no matter what she was going through. As I was reading about her experiences of the Great Depression I was reminded of sitting around listing to my Parents and Grandparents talk about not the bad times but how important family was during those years. I never heard once "Wow it was so Hard during those Years", My Aunts and Uncles only talked about how great it was to have a close Family to spend time with and they passed it on to us Kids because all of my Cousins are close. The book brought back all those Memories and confirmed how Important Family is in this day and age something that is lost in many Family's big and small. I can't recommend this book any higher.Thank You MAM for sharing your Mom with all of us.

Love that the writer told her story before Alzheimer's took her memories away. She was a smart, brave, adventurous woman & shared her life stories with humor & love. Thanks to her daughter for sharing her mother's life with us.
I don't think one could read this book and not learn a thing or two - this was Inspiring. We live in a day and age where I feel growing older is portrayed as a scary thing that should be avoided at all costs and grace is becoming a lost virtue.
Evelyn, aged with grace,wisdom,humor and never a loss for hope - I never knew you, but I believe your story can help inspire young and old not to fear the life journey that is put in front of us all.

What an amazing book by an amazing person! It adds a whole new (positive) meaning to the idea of aging.
Reading through the book felt like being charged with jolts of positivity over and over again. As a matter of fact, there were a few lines that when I read, gave me goosebumps!
As a former female Marine I highly recommend this book. Knowing what this Sgt did in her life, and how she paved the way for females like myself, I will forever be thankful.
Ms. Evelyn was a classy lady. I really enjoyed reading her recollections of life. She loved people - all walks of life. Her spirit was genuine and she was so kind. Thank you for helping her share her memories MaryAlice ❤
Although I never got the pleasure of meeting "Sgt. Mom" in person, it has been an absolute pleasure to read her story, as told from her own memory, before her mental capabilities went into decline due to Alzheimer's disease. It was as if I was sitting there listening to my own Grandmother tell me stories of her childhood and early life! Her recollections and all of the pictures were awesome!
First learned about Sgt. Mom in May 2014 when receiving an email from Daddy's Marine Corp inviting us to send birthday greeting to this lovely Marine lady about to celebrate her 90th birthday on Memorial Day which was May 26th. My family sent many cards and notes which continued after her birthday. We built a friendship along with many others, as we became FaceBook friends to her as well as to her daughter MaryAlice which still continues. This book is awesome and recommended to all. It has feeling and tells a wonderful story. An excellent addition to any library.
